Gr 6-9-Still reeling from Fang's departure in Fang (2010), Max and the flock don't get the chance to enjoy any downtime. There is a new group bent on saving the world by destroying all humans to make room for an enhanced generation of genetically modified children. Not only must Max decide what to do about this new threat, but she is also dealing with her own confused feelings about Dylan, who has joined the Flock, and Fang, her best friend and soul mate who has left her. Meanwhile, Fang has been busy recruiting his own gang of teens, all with different superpowers, in order to combat the same Doomsday Group that Max and the Flock are investigating. Rebecca Soler narrates the seventh title (2011, both Little, Brown) in the series by James Patterson with a youthful voice and an edge that matches Max's sharp personality. Short chapters keep the action-driven plot moving quickly. The narration is accompanied by music during scenes of heavy action or emotion and by the sporadic use of sound effects such as breaking glass and footsteps. Few questions are answered and several new ones are raised. While this title is unlikely to draw in new listeners this late in the series, Angel should tide fans over as they await the upcoming series finale.-Amanda Raklovits, Champaign Public Library, IL

While Max (who's prophesied to save the world) tends the usual flock of "birdkids," her ex, Fang, is bringing together a new group of disenfranchised supernatural teens--including Max's clone, Maya. Hurt feelings and jealousies are put aside when the cultish Doomsday Group threatens world annihilation. Taut pacing, snappy dialogue, and engaging romantic entanglements extend the series.
